The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization states that there is no safe transit anywhere in the strait, urges maximum caution over mines potentially present throughout it, and records 29 verified attacks on vessels and at least ten seafarers killed. Approximately 20,000 seafarers are stranded aboard around 1,600 vessels, with dwindling water, food and fuel.
