The Washington summit's first anniversary, and TRIPP's first physical work

The United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan issued a joint statement on 11 August 2026 marking one year since the White House peace summit. It records that engineering surveys for the TRIPP route are under way in Armenia and that Azerbaijan has nearly completed the highway and railway on its side that would connect to it; that the United States and Armenia have agreed to form a TRIPP Development Company to lead infrastructure development; and that the three governments support building an electricity transmission line through the route. It records the United States granting US$201 million to the Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund to draw private investment to the Trans-Caspian trade route, the lifting of Azerbaijani trade restrictions with nearly 60,000 tonnes of goods moved through Azerbaijan to Armenia, a signed telecommunications agreement, both states joining the US Board of Peace, and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. The peace agreement text remains initialled by the two foreign ministers and unsigned. Around the same days Azerbaijan reported the first seven kilometres of a 194-kilometre Nakhchivan railway advancing toward the Armenian border, President Aliyev described Nakhchivan as a transport hub expecting 15 million tonnes of cargo a year once the route operates, and the two states held technical meetings on power transmission, pipelines and railway integration.

Why it mattersThis module has recorded TRIPP through paperwork for eighteen months — a declaration, an implementation framework, a framework agreement, a shareholding, a corrected name. Engineering surveys are the first item in that sequence that happens on the ground rather than on paper, and a survey is the step at which an alignment stops being notional. The rest of the statement is the parties' own account of their own progress and is graded accordingly; the two questions that have always governed the file — jurisdiction over passage and who operates the route — are not addressed by any of it, and neither is the unsigned treaty. The 9 August brief recorded TRIPP implementation as a watch item with no change identified. This is the change.
