In brief

The regiment named for the Patriot system on the Romanian Air Force’s unit list, established on 1 December 2018 under the Air Force Staff on its own page — which is why it is filed under the service and not under the surface-to-air missile brigade. Its published mission is the defence of Romanian airspace and of NATO’s eastern flank with long-range air-defence systems. No site or battery is recorded.

Broad area of activity
The defence of Romanian airspace and, in the regiment’s own words, of NATO’s eastern flank; no sector, site or coverage is published or recorded.
Notable history
The regiment’s page traces its lineage to an anti-aircraft artillery regiment formed on 15 November 1959 and to the 1973 merger of two regiments, and dates the present formation to 1 December 2018, created under the Air Force Staff to receive the Patriot system. It received its battle standard on 20 July 2021; the page records progressive delivery and integration from 2020 and the service’s first Patriot live firing in November 2023, which it calls a first for the Romanian Air Force.
Strengths
The formation that gives the Black Sea flank’s principal ally a published long-range air-defence organisation, with a mission the service states in alliance terms. Its direct subordination to the Air Force Staff, stated on its own page, is the structural fact this record exists to carry, and the one the Watch question on air-and-missile-defence depth reads.
Limitations
Everything operational is refused: no battery, site, sector, holding or readiness state is recorded, and the delivery and firing dates are carried as published milestones only. The regiment’s relationship to the missile brigade is not stated on either page and is not inferred; the relationship to allied air command runs through the component command, not through this record.
