In brief

The air service of the Romanian Armed Forces, which flies the air-policing mission over the Black Sea flank. Its own site lists twenty units by name and publishes its equipment by type; three units are authored — the air component command and the two ground-based air-defence formations — and the rest are bases, schools and support bodies that this module does not carry.

Broad area of activity
Romanian airspace and the Black Sea approaches; the service publishes its bases and this record does not carry them.
Notable history
The service’s component command traces the national air-defence command post to 1979 and records that on accession in 2004 its reporting and control centre took on air surveillance and air policing under NATO command through a transfer of authority to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The service has since re-equipped by type around the F-16, published on its own combat-aircraft page, and the Patriot system, which it documents on a dedicated page and assigns to a regiment formed in 2018 under the Air Force Staff.
Strengths
The Black Sea flank’s national air arm, with a published unit list, a published equipment list and unit pages that give lineage and role — the deepest self-published air-force structure in this module. Its air-policing role is stated by the service in the alliance’s own terms, and the ministry’s per-incident releases make it the state whose airspace record this module can count.
Limitations
Most of the unit list is basing and support and is refused or not carried; the equipment edges are to the service and say nothing about allocation, quantity or coverage, and the record refuses every site, sector and battery claim. The service names no wing or squadron and states no subordination on its unit list beyond the unit pages.
