In brief
The seagoing command of the Romanian Naval Forces, formed on 1 May 2006 in succession to the naval operational command and heir, on its own page, to the Sea Division of 1896. It commands the navy’s maritime combat formations; its subordinate divizioane are battalion-equivalents and sit below this module’s structural floor, so only its frigate flotilla is authored.

- Broad area of activity
- Romania’s Black Sea waters and their approaches, in the command’s own description of its zone of responsibility; no base or station is recorded.
- Notable history
- The command’s page dates its lineage to the Sea Division created by royal decree in 1896, re-formed as a maritime division in 1962, renamed the Maritime Fleet Command on 1 September 1994, converted into a naval operational command on 1 March 2003 and established as the Fleet Command on 1 May 2006, when it took over the navy’s maritime and river combat units. Its published missions run from planning the employment of naval forces in crisis and war and exercising command and operational control over its own and operationally assigned forces, to surveillance of the maritime and river space, search and rescue, and protection of offshore platforms.
- Strengths
- The one western-shore Black Sea fleet whose organisation and missions the state publishes in full: a command with a stated span — the frigate flotilla and the divizioane — and stated responsibilities that include the management of Romania’s maritime space and cooperation with civil protection and the border police. It is the national maritime organisation through which allied standing naval forces in the Black Sea meet Romania.
- Limitations
- The divizioane are named and refused as below the floor, and the record carries no vessel, base or readiness state. The command’s relationship to NATO’s maritime command is not stated on its page and no edge is authored; the transfer of the river units it received in 2006 to the River Flotilla Command in 2015 is inferred from the two pages together and is stated only at that strength.
