- Broad area of activity
- Denmark, from a brigade headquarters published at Dragonkasernen in Holstebro, with its soldiers based at the garrisons of the regiments that contribute to it. The seat is the barracks the Army publishes; no area of operations exists for a brigade at this level.
- Notable history
- The build-up of 1st Brigade is the major reorganisation the Army began under the 2018–2023 defence agreement, and the 2024–2033 agreement carries it on: the ministry’s 2024 decision to bring investments forward and the second partial agreement fund further armoured infantry vehicles for it, and the armed forces describe the aim as a heavy brigade able to take part in the alliance’s rapid-response forces. The Army itself says, as of October 2024, that the brigade is not yet in place.
- Strengths
- A published purpose and a published programme. The Army states what the brigade is for — conventional operations against a peer adversary as an independent formation — and the ministry publishes the agreements funding it, which is more than most allied heavy-brigade programmes on the flank publish about themselves.
- Limitations
- A programme, not a completed formation, by the Army’s own account. Nothing below the brigade is authored, its regiments are garrison bodies and not sub-units, its strength target and vehicle conversions are published and deliberately not carried, and the date by which the heavy brigade will be complete is not stated on the pages opened.
