In brief

The German armed forces — four services (Heer, Luftwaffe, Marine and the Cyber- und Informationsraum) and a joint support area under one ministry, reorganised in 2024–25 around territorial and alliance defence; framework nation of the brigade permanently stationed in Lithuania and the transit depth behind the flank. The organisation hub publishes services and top-level commands, and this tree ends at the service by rule.

Broad area of activity
Germany — the staging and transit ground between the North Sea ports and the flank — with one army brigade permanently stationed in Lithuania and a naval task-force headquarters for the Baltic at Rostock.
Notable history
The organisation the hub describes is the product of a reorganisation the Bundeswehr dates itself: the Cyber- und Informationsraum became the fourth service in May 2024; the Operatives Führungskommando took over the leadership of all operations in October 2024; and a new Unterstützungskommando, established the same month, absorbed the Streitkräftebasis, the central medical service and further agencies into a support area placed in service on 29 April 2025. In parallel the Heer activated Panzerbrigade 45 on 1 April 2025 under the 10th Panzer Division for permanent stationing in Lithuania, with readiness targeted for the end of 2027 — the module's clearest published case of a national force moving to the flank as standing structure rather than rotation.
Strengths
Position and mandate. Germany is the ground every reinforcement from the west crosses, and its 2024–25 reorganisation is explicitly framed around Landes- und Bündnisverteidigung. It hosts NATO's Joint Support and Enabling Command, co-frames Multinational Corps Northeast and 1 (German/Netherlands) Corps, and its navy has held Commander Task Force Baltic for the alliance since 1 October 2024.
Limitations
The hub names the services and their top-level commands; it does not publish an order of battle, and the Heer's own divisions are named on the Heer's pages rather than the hub's. This tree stops at the service and the support area because the module counts formations only where the state publishes them at the level being modelled, not because German structure is opaque. Nothing about strength, readiness or basing is authored.

Germany begins standing up a permanent brigade in Lithuania

Germany begins deploying additional troops to the multinational battlegroup it leads in Lithuania, laying the groundwork for scaling up from battalion to brigade size. NATO states that these troops are setting up a permanent German military base in Lithuania, that the German-led brigade was inaugurated in May 2025, and that it will continue to scale up to be fully operational with up to 5,000 troops by 2027.
