Deliberately slower than the news: each brief is written when the picture has settled, not while it is moving.
Taiwan Strait developments — 1 November 2026
The coast guard lane and the air lane both moved this week, and neither crossed a threshold. A Chinese coast guard ship entered the waters at Pratas again with its tracking system off and, by Taiwan's account, called its presence a law-enforcement inspection patrol in Chinese waters, while four ships entered Kinmen's restricted waters twice in one day. The PLA's fifth designated patrol of October, on 31 October, put the month one above this year's run of two to four, and short of twice it. Pakistan closed its airspace to Taiwanese airlines for about three days, citing the one-China policy, and reversed the closure within hours of it being reported. No boarding, inspection or closure area, no named exercise and no new Taiwan Affairs Office measure.
