The first organised convoy of displaced families returned to Ras al-Ain (Serê Kaniyê) in Hasakah province on 10 August 2026, around 400 families displaced since the 2019 Turkish-backed offensive. Reporting from the northeast describes returnees who subsequently entered the city outside the organised convoy being attacked by masked assailants; the Internal Security Command's own statement referred to a dispute with current residents. The committee organising returns suspended further movements pending an investigation. Protests followed in Hasakah, Qamishli and Ain al-Arab (Kobani), where crowds entered the district administration and Internal Security headquarters and removed Syrian flags from the buildings. Internal Security imposed a curfew in Kobani and later said detentions had been made over the attacks and the riots. Hasakah deputy governor Ahmad al-Hilali called the acts unacceptable. On 13 August SDF commander Mazloum Abdi announced an understanding reached with presidential envoy Ziad al-Ayesh and Second Corps commander Awad al-Jassem covering attacks on state institutions, the position of displaced civilians, and accelerating the integration process.
