In brief

The Norwegian Army, whose task the armed forces state as securing Norway’s sovereignty on land. The armed forces’ organisation page names no brigade; the Army’s own units page names Brigade Nord, Finnmarksbrigaden and a planned Brigade Sør, none of which is authored here yet.

Broad area of activity
Norway’s land territory. The Army states its task as securing Norwegian sovereignty on land — preventing attack, enabling allied reception and cooperation, restoring territorial integrity and protecting the population — and fulfilling Norway’s commitments primarily within NATO and the UN. Its leadership is published at Bardufoss in northern Norway.
Notable history
The Army marks four hundred years in 2028 and has held the border task in Finnmark through a border garrison since 1921. Its recent history is a rebuilding published by the armed forces themselves: from a single standing brigade in the north to three, with Finnmarksbrigaden established in August 2025 from the former Finnmark land defence and a mobilisation brigade for the south being staffed from November 2025. The armed forces are explicit that Brigade Nord is the deployable brigade and not "the brigade in the north" — the Finnmark formation is built for that ground.
Strengths
A published design with a published rationale. Norway states which brigade is for Finnmark, which is for deployment anywhere and which is a reserve for the capital region, and it states the dates. An Army growing along the Russian border while Finland and Sweden join the alliance is the land side of the Nordic region becoming one theatre.
Limitations
The tree lags the publication. This record is childless because the module’s Army ceiling was fixed before the Army’s units page was re-read, and the brigades now named there await a deliberate pass. The build-up to 2032 is a plan, and its state of completion, the strength of any brigade and any deployment are not carried.
