In brief

Broad area of activity
By period: Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip in 2024, and south Lebanon in October 2024 and again in 2026; described at strategic scale only.
Notable history
Named by the IDF as the division leading the Khan Younis operation until April 2024 and reported back in Khan Younis from July 2024. It was among the first formations the IDF named in the ground operation in south Lebanon that began on 1 October 2024, which the IDF described as limited, targeted and geographically confined, and it was deployed to south Lebanon again in the 2026 war, an attachment reported in April 2026. The IDF's April 2024 probe programme examined its Gaza manoeuvre with five other divisions.
Strengths
The IDF's division built around paratroop and commando brigades, committed first in one of the war's hardest urban sectors in Gaza and in both Lebanon ground operations.
Limitations
Later Gaza attachments are not authored, and the 2026 Lebanon deployment is graded moderate because it rests on reporting rather than an IDF structural release. No strength, order of battle, positions or current deployment are published or recorded.
