Operators
Ukraine: A core towed-artillery type throughout the war, sustained by allied ammunition supply. · Russia: Fielded alongside newer self-propelled systems.
Battlefield role
In Ukraine, a baseline towed howitzer of the artillery war — simple to crew and fed by whichever 122mm stocks allies can source. In Mali, among the heaviest indirect fire the state fields, used from garrison hubs. The same gun serves industrial attrition in one war and hub defence in the other.
