In brief

A regular armoured manoeuvre division: in Gaza from 2023 (Rafah in 2024, then the north of the Strip until it handed over to the 252nd in February 2025 after some 500 days of combat), and reported in south Lebanon in 2026.

Broad area of activity
By period: the Gaza Strip from 2023 to February 2025, and south Lebanon in 2026 as reported; described at strategic scale only.
Notable history
In Gaza from the ground manoeuvre that opened on 27 October 2023, in Rafah in 2024 and then in the north of the Strip, where IDF releases of February 2025 record it handing its sector to the 252nd Division after some 500 days of combat, the longest division-level commitment the IDF has published for the war. The IDF's own probe programme, as described in April 2024, examined its manoeuvre alongside five other divisions under the Southern Command. In 2026 it was reported in south Lebanon during the expanded ground operation that began in mid-March, an attachment recorded here from press reporting rather than from an IDF structural statement.
Strengths
The IDF's most sustained division-level deployment of the Gaza war, with the experience of urban and subterranean operations in both Rafah and the north of the Strip, and a formation the IDF has moved between fronts.
Limitations
Its attachment changes by campaign, so no standing parent command is claimed, and the Lebanon deployment of 2026 rests on press reporting. No strength, order of battle, equipment holdings, positions or current deployment are published or recorded.
