- Dispersed fighter operations from airfields across unoccupied Ukraine; its published home base is Vasylkiv, south of Kyiv. No current basing is authored.
- Historique notable
- The brigade that inherited the MiG-29 regiment at Vasylkiv and became, in the full-scale war, the formation most identified with Ukraine's fighter defence of its own cities: its aircraft were dispersed within hours of the opening strikes, flew the intercepts over Kyiv in the first weeks, and through 2022–24 carried the MiG-29's improvised second life — Western anti-radiation missiles and guided bombs bolted onto Soviet airframes, and a role in the air war's most publicised moments that the brigade's information output has made its own. Its base has been struck repeatedly, which is the price of a name known since 1992.
- Points forts
- Dispersal discipline and improvisation — the qualities that kept the fighter force alive in 2022 — and the largest single pool of the type that Ukraine's partners could reinforce with donated airframes.
- Limites
- Legacy airframes at the edge of their service lives; a pilot pipeline that limits sortie tempo more than aircraft numbers; and a base within easy reach of Russian strike.
