Zone d’activité générale
The Donbas since 2014; publicly associated with the Bakhmut and Chasiv Yar sectors in the full-scale war. No current disposition is authored.
Historique notable
One of the regular brigades Ukraine inherited and kept through the lean years, garrisoned at Yavoriv near the Polish border and among the first committed to the Donbas in 2014, where it fought the summer battles around Luhansk and took the losses of that campaign. In the full-scale war it has carried the long-defence assignments: the Bakhmut approaches in 2023 and, through 2024, the defence of Chasiv Yar, the high ground west of Bakhmut whose canal line it held for most of a year under glide bombs and assault — a battle Ukrainian statements and ISW documented week by week.
Points forts
Deep institutional experience, a veteran cadre tradition older than most of the force, and a demonstrated capacity for prolonged defence of a single position.
Limites
The unglamorous long-defence role generates less documentation — and less recruitment pull — than the assault formations, and a year at Chasiv Yar carries the attrition that implies; its corps assignment is not published.
