Not at war with each other, and no Belarusian force has entered Ukraine; but Belarus carried the 2022 northern axis, remains open to Russian forces and since December 2025 hosts a declared Russian intermediate-range missile unit. Ukraine screens the border as a standing threat axis; Belarus calls its posture defensive.
Un arrangement symétrique : il se lit de la même façon des deux côtés. Rédigé une seule fois, sur une seule fiche.

Synthèse
The February 2022 assault on Kyiv came through Belarus, and Belarusian airspace, rail and training areas have remained available to Russian forces since. No Belarusian unit has been committed to combat, and the northern axis has not reopened — the two facts that define this relationship. Ukraine nonetheless holds the border as an active direction: Operational Command North's area includes it, border and territorial forces screen it, and Ukrainian statements treat Belarusian announcements of exercises or Russian deployments as indicators to be read, which the Watch layer does in this module's force-regeneration and front-line questions. On the Belarusian side the relationship is managed as deterrence by association — Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons declared deployed from 2023, the Oreshnik unit declared on combat duty from 30 December 2025 — and by periodic mobilisation checks and exercises Minsk describes as defensive. Diplomatic relations are reduced rather than severed, and prisoner and humanitarian contacts recur. Vigil records the existence and declared basis of the arrangements and publishes nothing about their content: no sites, no formations, no strengths, no positions and no fortification.
Pourquoi c’est important
It is the one direction on which a new axis could open without a Russian breakthrough at the front, and Ukraine's answer — screening it with forces that are therefore not in the east — is a cost the attritional war charges every day whether the axis opens or not. The Belarus basing declarations of 2023 and 2025 matter for the same reason: they change what Kyiv must plan against without any Belarusian soldier crossing the line.

Ce qui reste inconnu
- The strength and composition of Ukrainian forces screening the border, and of Belarusian forces facing it, are not published and are not represented.
- Whether Russian forces in Belarus are at any time configured for an offensive is assessed in open sources from exercises and movements; Vigil records only declared arrangements.
- The content of the Oreshnik and nuclear basing arrangements — sites, numbers, command — is outside this record by policy.
Lectures que les éléments permettent aussi
- The northern threat can be read as a Russian fixing effort — holding Ukrainian forces on a border that will not be crossed — or as a genuine option retained for later. The two readings imply the same Ukrainian response, which is why the record does not choose between them.
