- The European theatre, from a headquarters at Stuttgart; its commander is dual-hatted as Supreme Allied Commander Europe at SHAPE.
- Historique notable
- The dual-hatting of the EUCOM commander with SACEUR is the structural link between the American and alliance command systems and has been continuous since the appointment was created; NATO describes SACEUR as traditionally a US flag or general officer who is also the commander of US European Command. Beneath the command sit three service component commands for Europe and Africa — army, air force and navy — each also serving US Africa Command, and each modelled here only insofar as it bears on the eastern flank.
