- The command publishes itself as the Navy component in Europe, whose commander "plans, conducts, and supports naval operations in the European theater during peacetime, contingencies, in general war and as tasked by Commander, U.S. European Command", directing all naval operations through Commander, US Sixth Fleet, from a headquarters at Naval Support Activity Naples. The same officer serves as Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples — the second US–NATO dual-hat in this tree after SACEUR, and the one that ties the alliance's southern joint command to the US fleet in the Mediterranean.
