Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, which the armed forces name as their domestic area, and international operations beyond it. The High Command — the Chief of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff — is published at Defence Command Denmark in Copenhagen.
Historique notable
A founding ally whose structure is a single Defence Command over three services and two joint commands, one of which — Joint Arctic Command, formed in 2012 by merging the Greenland and Faroe Islands commands — is the Kingdom’s Arctic presence. The defence agreement for 2024–2033 and the 2024 decision to bring investments forward are the current structural programme, published in Danish: a heavy brigade for the Army, accelerated naval and air-defence procurement and a fleet plan. In this module Denmark is also the co-framework nation of Multinational Division North with Latvia, seated at Karup and Ādaži, recorded on that record.
Points forts
Two geographies that matter and a command for each. The Danish straits are the Baltic’s only exits, and the armed forces’ Arctic command is the alliance’s standing military presence in Greenland and the Faroes; both are published institutions rather than plans. The Army publishes its brigades and regiments in English to a depth no other Nordic service matches.
Limites
Denmark is not an eastern-flank land contributor at scale, and the Army itself warns that its regiments are garrison and tradition bodies, not manoeuvre formations. The reorganisation under the 2024–2033 agreement is a programme in progress, published in Danish and not dated to completion here; strength, readiness and the state of the heavy brigade are not carried.
