Lithuania; its subordinate formations are seated at Rukla, Klaipėda and Kaunas, and the German-led brigade NATO describes as permanent is being established on the same ground.
Historique notable
The principal-structure law had no division until the Seimas amended it in June 2024 to add an infantry division; the amendment of 25 June 2025 renamed it the First Division of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and fixed its composition at three permanent brigades, engineer and artillery regiments and a reconnaissance battalion. The ministerial statutes of 2026 then made the subordination operative in words: the Iron Wolf Brigade is a formation of the First Division subordinate to its commander (8 April), the engineer regiment is directly subordinate to the division commander (10 July), and the Žemaitija Brigade is subordinate to the division commander (31 August).
Points forts
A division defined by statute rather than announced, with its brigades’ subordination written into their own founding orders — the strongest public evidence for a divisional tree in this module. Built in parallel with the German-led brigade that NATO describes as reaching full operation by 2027, it gives Lithuania a national headquarters at the echelon above the allied formation rather than below it.
Limites
The authored division is smaller than the legislated one: one of its three brigades and its artillery regiment have no statute this project has read. No divisional statute, seat, headquarters structure or readiness date is established from official sources, and the media reports of a 2030 full-operational-capability target are not carried as fact.
