- Gyumri, in north-western Armenia near the Turkish frontier; an air element at Erebuni near Yerevan is publicly documented
- Historique notable
- The 102nd Military Base was established in 1995 on the lineage of a Soviet motor-rifle division that had faced the Turkish frontier, under a treaty whose term Russia and Armenia extended in 2010 to 2044 while widening the base's mission to cover Armenia's security generally. It is a brigade-sized formation of the Southern Military District's ground forces with a fighter and helicopter element at Erebuni airfield, and for three decades it was the physical guarantee of the Russian security relationship. That relationship has since been reduced to a formal shell: Armenia froze its CSTO participation in 2024, ended the Russian border-troop arrangement between 2024 and 2026, and signed framework agreements with the United States and the European Union — and yet has not moved to end the base's lease. The base is therefore the module's marker of the realignment's limit: what Armenia could end by agreement it has ended, and this it has not.
- Points forts
- A treaty-backed presence to 2044 with an air element, on the frontier with a NATO member, that survived every other part of the relationship.
- Limites
- Reported to have been drawn on for the war in Ukraine, carried here as reported; a mission — Armenia's security — that the host no longer describes it as performing; and a political position in which its continued presence is a question both governments now say the other may open — President Putin said on 2 September 2026 that Russia would leave if Armenia found the base unneeded, and Prime Minister Pashinyan said on 16–17 September that Armenia had never raised its withdrawal and would not object to one — and neither has proposed changing the lease. No strength, holdings, dispositions or activity are recorded.
