Pertinence pour les conflits

Ceci est la fiche unique du catalogue pour ce système. Il est pertinent pour le module ci-dessous ; le Force Atlas de chaque module montre comment il y est employé.

Opérateurs

United Nations / MINUSMA: The German contingent's transport and medevac helicopters at Gao, 2017–2018, with Tiger escorts; the Netherlands and Belgium later provided other types. Withdrawn before the mission ended. · France: The French Army's Caïman, flown with Barkhane for assault transport and medevac from 2014 until the withdrawal.

Rôle sur le champ de bataille

MINUSMA's mobility and medevac backbone during the German deployment, and Barkhane's assault-transport helicopter: the guarantee that a wounded soldier or peacekeeper could reach surgical care in time. The capability left with the European drawdown, measurably shrinking the mission's reach before its 2023 withdrawal.

Points forts

A modern medium helicopter with the range, night capability and cabin for a medevac team — the capability the UN mission could not generate from its other contingents, and the reason the German deployment mattered beyond its size.

Limites

Demanding to maintain in heat and dust, with low availability rates publicly acknowledged by the operating ministries; a small number of airframes tied to a single contingent, so the capability disappeared when the contingent rotated out. Historical only.

Identification visuelle

A medium helicopter with a four-blade main rotor, a deep cabin with large sliding doors, a rear ramp and a tall fin carrying the tail rotor on the left.

Emploi documenté dans les conflits

German NH90s flew from Gao for MINUSMA between 2017 and 2018, with the ministry publishing the deployment and the loss of a Tiger escort in July 2017; French Caïmans flew with Barkhane, including in the November 2019 collision that killed thirteen soldiers. Historical only.
