The whole Lithuanian Armed Forces: operational direction of assigned capabilities, the military intelligence collection plan and, under the military service statute, command of soldiers sent to international operations.
Historique notable
The ministry’s work regulations of 2010 describe a Chief of the Defence Staff directly subordinate to the Commander of the Armed Forces and accountable to the Minister; the military service statute assigns him operational command of soldiers on international operations from departure to return. The Land Force statute of 1 September 2026 shows the same mechanism in current form: the service assigns capabilities to the Chief of the Defence Staff for operational direction and feeds his intelligence collection plan. That is the staff a national division and an allied brigade both have to talk to.
Points forts
A single strategic staff between the Commander and the services, with a published operational-direction function that the newest service statute reaffirms. In a force being rebuilt around a division, the staff that receives assigned capabilities is the point at which national and allied planning meet.
Limites
Its own statute and structure were not served by the register to this pass, and the law’s dedicated article on it appears as repealed in the consolidated text, so the current legal definition is carried here from other instruments that refer to it rather than from its own. Nothing about its size, branches or seat is established.
