Allgemeines Tätigkeitsfeld
The whole of Norway through eleven regional districts, each with territorial responsibility for protecting important military and civilian installations. The Chief of the Home Guard and the staff are published at Camp Terningmoen in eastern Norway, with a training establishment at Dombås.
Bemerkenswerte Geschichte
The Home Guard is the institutional survivor of Norway’s total-defence tradition, and the armed forces still describe it that way: a quick mobilisation force formed mainly of soldiers transferred after initial service, with a smaller set of voluntarily recruited rapid-reaction forces, tasked with territorial integrity, military presence and infrastructure protection and able to support civil authorities in disasters and searches. The Finnmark district sits inside the new Finnmarksbrigaden by the Army’s own account, which is the one place where the Home Guard’s structure has been drawn into the Army’s published reorganisation.
Stärken
Coverage. Eleven districts across a country as long as Norway are the published mechanism by which installations, ports and reception areas for allied forces have a standing local guard in peacetime, and the armed forces publish it as a branch rather than an auxiliary.
Einschränkungen
The districts are published as a number and a principle, not as a structure, and none is authored. Personnel totals, the size of the rapid-reaction forces and the readiness of any district are published on the page and deliberately not carried here. The Norwegian and English pages are years apart in date, and this record uses only what they share.
