JNIM's encirclement of Djibo since February 2022 cut the roads and drove the surrounding population into a town of about 60,000 that now holds several times that and lives on airlift. Nothing inside has been measured with a date since 2022, so every figure is a floor and access is the finding.

تطويق Djibo، منذ 16–17 فبراير 2022
- المنطقة أو المنظومة المتأثرةمؤكَّد
Djibo, the provincial capital of Soum in northern Burkina Faso, with about 60,000 inhabitants before the siege, supplied by road from Ouagadougou through the Centre-Nord and Sahel regions and serving as the market, administrative and health centre for a province of pastoral communities.

- تعطّل الوصول أو الخدماتمؤكَّد
From 16–17 February 2022 jihadist forces, primarily Ansarul Islam and JNIM, encircled the town: infrastructure destroyed, roads mined, bridges cut and supply convoys ambushed — the Gaskindé ambush of 26 September 2022 killed 26 soldiers and 10 civilians and destroyed 95 vehicles, and a convoy that reached the town in June 2023 was ambushed on the return with 31 or more soldiers killed. Surrounding populations were forcibly relocated into the town. From around May 2022 resupply depended chiefly on humanitarian airlift, with occasional military-escorted road convoys; a 74-truck convoy in March 2023 was the first in four months. Assaults at scale followed, including one on 11 May 2025 that overran the army base, without the town being taken.

- الحالة المدنيةمؤكَّد
A population multiplied several times over — between 200,000 and 300,000 inside the town and about 370,000 besieged by December 2022, the last established measurement — dependent on what the airlift carries, with the town's economy substantially destroyed, the wider province outside routine administration, and the town reported as compartmentalised, civilians concentrated around the military camp and much of the remainder emptied. People have left for armed-group-held countryside out of desperation. Human-rights researchers documented executions of civilians in the town after the May 2025 assault.

- الأهمية الإنسانية الأوسعانكشاف معقول
Access is the whole of the response: what reaches Djibo reaches it by air, at a cost that sustains the population and concedes the road network, and nothing published measures the current population, food availability or conditions inside with a date later than 2022. The least reachable town in the module is also the least counted, so its figures are floors, and the country's own displacement count has not been updated since March 2023. The plausible trajectory is that the airlift continues to hold the town in place while its measured need falls further behind its real need; whether the airlift itself is funded through 2026, and whether a road convoy ever again moves unescorted, are the two variables, and neither is established.

ما لا يزال مجهولًا
- Current population, food availability and conditions inside the town are not published in any form Vigil can cite with a date; the figures here are from 2022 and are the last established measurement.
- Airlift volumes, frequency and funding are not published at a usable frequency, so the response's capacity is described, never measured.
- Burkina Faso's consolidated displacement figure has not been updated since March 2023, so the town's share of national displacement cannot be stated.
- Casualty figures on the convoys and in the assaults come from official statements, local sources and media reporting; military claims of insurgent losses are recorded as claims.

- The population concentration may reflect coercion by the besieging forces, flight from surrounding violence, or both; sources describe forcible relocation, and the relative weight of the two is not established.
- The siege continuing can be read as a strategy of denial — hold the town in place, deny its administration, avoid the cost of governing it — or as a repeated failure to capture an objective assaulted at scale; the humanitarian consequence is the same under either reading.

Whether the airlift continues
The one supply line is an aircraft; whether it keeps flying, and who funds it, is the measure of whether the town stays supplied at all.
Road convoys and their cost
Whether an escorted convoy reaches the town, and what it loses on the way — the campaign's heaviest losses have fallen on resupply, not on the garrison.
حركة المدنيين خارج البلدة
People leaving for armed-group-held countryside is the measure of conditions inside that no supply figure captures.
A dated measurement
Any published count of the population, food availability or health conditions inside the town with a date later than 2022.
